The MEC for Economic Development in Gauteng, Firoz Cachalia, will on Tuesday, 22 September 2009, hold a media briefing to address issues raised by the Auditor General in the annual reports of the department and those of its sister agencies.
The department and four of its entities (Blue IQ, Gauteng Enterprise Propeller (GEP), Gauteng Tourism Authority (GTA), and Dinokeng and Cradle of Humankind) received 11 disclaimers, 10 qualifications, 26 emphasis of matter, and 52 other matters.
Some of the key issues raised in the audit report include issues relating to the Gauteng motor sport contracts and other contracts in general. Unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure arising from the acquisition of cumulative preferential shares in a privately owned company, internal control deficiencies, and instances of non compliance with applicable legislation are some of the issues that MEC and the chief executive officers of the agencies will address during the briefing.
