Gauteng launches schools project to take pride in South Africa's

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mtimkulu and Education MEC Ms Barbara Creecy will launch the 'Fly the flag-100 Schools in 100 Days' project at Ibhongo High School in Dlamini-Soweto, on 15 August 2009.

The project is aimed at fostering social cohesion and national identity by galvanising learners and educators to understand appreciate and take pride in South Africa's National Symbols, such as the National flag, National Anthem and Coat of Arms.

As part of the launch, officials from both departments, parents, members of the local community and learners will be painting classrooms, fixing window and doors and cleaning the schools. Residents of Dlamini and the surrounding areas have been requested to donate clothes and non-perishable items to be distributed to families of needy learners.
