Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC visits women with disabilities

As part of the 16 Days of Activism against Women and Children Abuse, Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC Qedani Mahlangu will visit women with disabilities at Westbury Recreational Centre tomorrow.

Driven by the theme ‘Don’t look away, act against violence’, the department seeks to create awareness on abuse with a specific focus on women with disabilities and the challenges they face. One of the key challenges is their ability to relate their experiences using sign language.

Gauteng government departments will hold information sessions about the services that available for people living with disabilities, abused women and children. On the day, critical services such as applying for social grants, identity documents as well as primary healthcare will be offered.

In addition to the above there will also be motivational talks from different organisations, among them People Opposing Women Abuse (POWA).
