Gauteng Provincial Departments that fall under the Social Transformation Cluster (namely, Community Safety, Health and Social Development, Education, and the Housing and Local Government) will all meet in Mogale City’s Krugersdorp Council Municipality to present their annual reports for the financial year 2011/2012.
As agreed between the Legislature and government departments, and as a requirement of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), departments are required to compile annual reports; obtain audited financial statements and reports by the Auditor General and submit these to the Speaker of the Gauteng Legislature.
This exercise is to determine whether departments have met their targets as per the plans set out during their budget period. It also assists to determine whether all allocated budgets had been spent according to plans for the financial period under review.
Usually, the Legislature carries out the annual report process within its precinct in Johannesburg. However, this year’s annual report process will be taken to Mogale City to enable the people to witness how Provincial government departments account to the Legislature on service delivery priorities, which include health and social development, safety and security, education, housing and local government, and sports, arts and culture.
