Gauteng golden oldies team bound for national games in Port Elizabeth

The 41 strong member Gauteng team for this year’s national golden games in Port Elizabeth will jet out from the OR Tambo Airport tomorrow at 13h00. Team Gauteng will join other provincial teams in competing in activities such as duck walking, soccer, track events and indigenous games.

Through the golden games concept the Departments of Sport and Recreation aim to enhance the quality of life and improve the health of older persons by engaging them in programmes promoting optimal level of social, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing to prevent and delay the onset of ageing.

To bid the team farewell the Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha–Mtimkulu will host them over a send off dinner tonight at the Grand Hotel next to the OR Tambo Airport starting at 18h00.

The Gauteng golden team has promised to bring back gold and add to the glitter of gold as the province is called and again put truth to the concept of Gauteng being home of champions by winning.

Attendance and coverage of both the tonight’s send-off dinner and tomorrow’s departure of the team in honour of our elderly will be appreciated.
