Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation celebrates Mandela Day

The MEC of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Ms Nelisiwe Mbatha-Mtimkulu will lead the departmental staff including senior management in heeding the call made by President Jacob Zuma to spend at least 67 minutes on Mandela Day doing something good for the community.

The department has identified two facilities being a sports facility in Bekkersdaal and a community library in Evaton North where staff will be joined by the local communities to volunteer their time and service to do among other things like painting, cleaning and maintenance. Books, magazines, toys, furniture will also be donated to the library.

18 July marks Tata Nelson Mandela's 91st birthday and the 67 minutes reflects 67 years of uninterrupted and selfless service in the course of his extraordinary life, to the people of South Africa and the world. Celebrations marking Nelson Mandela Day will be held in various capitals of the world.

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation would like to wish Tata Nelson Mandela a happy birthday and a healthy life.
