Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development rolls out Forensic Medical Services

As part of 16 days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, Gauteng Department of Health and Social Development will roll out Forensic Medical Services to the community of Impumelelo Township in Devon.

This unit which will be based at Usizolwethu Clinic will ensure that survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence receive support, examination and treatment such as Post Exposure Prophylaxis to prevent them from being infected with HIV. Previously these vulnerable women and children had to travel to neighbouring towns such as Heidelberg for this service.

Also on the day, the department will be sharing information with the community about the services that are rendered by this new unit, the overall department as well educating them on how they can access these services. The community will also have an opportunity to test for diabetes and hypertension and other diseases.
