Gauteng MEC for Education, Barbara Creecy will on Sunday, 4 October 2009, host a media briefing to give details on the department's state of readiness regarding the coming second National Curriculum Statement Examinations.
The examination will officially start on 26 October 2009 and end on 4 December, 2009. It should be noted that practical examinations for Computer Application Technology (CAT) and Information Technology (IT) begins on 7 October 2009.
A total of 101 218 full time and 8 117 part time candidates are expected to sit for the Senior Certificate Examination in 790 centres across the province. Marking of the scripts is scheduled to start on 21 November and is scheduled to be completed by 15 December 2009.
The Gauteng Department of Education will ensure that its Grade 12 Examinations are of highest comparable standard. GDE prides itself in ensuring that its examinations are characterised by credibility and integrity.
During the briefing, MEC Creecy will focus on the following issues:
a. The question of security in the delivery of question papers and storage.
b. Conduct of learners, parents and the community during exams.
c. Intervention programmes for schools that performed below 30% during the 2008
