Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) opens talks for better quality ECD services

The Gauteng Department of Education, through its Early Childhood Development Institute (ECDI), will host an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Indaba in collaboration with all universities in Gauteng. The purpose of the indaba is to begin discussions and debates on the quality of Early Childhood Development services in Gauteng. The indaba will create a platform for existing research to be tabled as well as innovative ideas and best practices on ECD will also be discussed.

The ECDI was established in April 2005 with the aim of integrating and coordinating ECD-related government services in the province, increasing participation related to ECD service provision and improving the overall quality of these services. The goal of the institute is to ensure that integration of ECD services is experienced on the ground by beneficiaries.

The institute has made significant strides since its inception which include establishing relationships with universities around Gauteng. The Indaba will make provision for various academics to present existing research on ECD and encourage discussions about the quality of support for ECD and better approaches to redress the imbalances in ECD.

The details of the indaba are as follows:
Date: 9 October 2010
Time: 08h00
