Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Ms Nandi Mayathula-Khoza invites the media to join her during an award ceremony for best abattoirs in Gauteng.
The award ceremony comes after a number of audits have been conducted in all registered abattoirs in Gauteng. Veterinary officials in determining compliance with meet safety regulations in line with the Meat Safety Act of 2000.
The aim of the awards is to enhance food security, public health and animal welfare by:
- improving the hygienic quality of meat
- prolonging the shelf-life of meat and meat products
- decreasing food spoilage and wastage
- lower the risk of food poisoning from meat products.
