The Johannesburg freedom of the city parade on Saturday 7 November 2009 at 11h00 at the Orlando East Community Centre in Mooki Street, Orlando East. The main functionary of the event this year will be the Speaker of the Johannesburg City Council, Councillor Nkele Ntingane, while Major General Roy Anderson, Chief of Defence Reserves will represent the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
The city of Johannesburg granted the freedom of entry to 21 South African infantry battalion and several reserve units. Once a year these units exercise their right to the freedom of the city by marching through the city.
The parade will march up to Mooki Street and trooping of the band will take place. The Speaker of the Johannesburg City Council will inspect and address the parade. Marching columns will exercise their right to the freedom of the city by marching through Orlando East.
