Free State hosts Dr Irvin Khoza Schools League Finals

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation together with provincial Department of Education will host the 2011 Irvin Khoza Schools League Finals in Kroonstad in the Moqhaka Local Municipality. The Tournament which started in May this year involved 10 schools from across the province, namely Louis Botha, Seemahale, Lere la Thuto,Concordia, Diamandhoogte, Dr Cingo, Harmony, Motake, Ntsu and Iketsetseng.

The tournament is a flagship programme of the department, involving different role-players. The objective is to identify young and enthusiastic soccer players and provide a platform for them to play competitively in a professional environment. Through this programme the department hopes to develop and hone the skills of these young aspiring soccer players.

The association with Dr. Irvin Khoza is important in that it provides an opportunity for us to pay homage to Mr. Khoza as well as other sport administrators and legends for their continued commitment to the development of sport in our country and our province.

The participating schools in the semi finals and finals of the Dr. Irvin Khoza Schools League Tournament are: Dr. Cingo Secondary School (Kroonstad), Harmony High School (Virginia), Loius Botha High School (Bloemfontein) and Concordia Secondary (Theunissen).

Prizes for the tournament are sport equipment divided as follows:

  • 1st Prize – R 100 000.00
  • 2nd Prize - R 60 000.00
  • 3rd Prize - R40 000.00

The premier of the Free State, Mr. Ace Magashule, MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mr Dan Kgothule, Dr. Irvin Khoza and other dignitaries are expected to be in attendance during the tournament. Details of the tournament are as follows:
