Free State Health holds Kangaroo Mother Care workshop for all EMS (Emergency Medical Services) officials, public and private

What: Provincial KMC (Kangaroo Mother Care) Inter-facility workshop
When: Tuesday, 24 April 2012, 09h00 to 14h00
Where: CJ Nel Lecture Hall, Universitas Tertiary Hospital
Who: Vanessa Booysen, Principal Neonatal Nursing Specialist, from the Maternal and Child Health Unit (MCH), Free State Department of Health, will present the workshop to all EMS staff in the province, private as well as government companies.
Why: Premature infants are extremely vulnerable. They become unstable when transported. Presently these tiny babies are transported over vast distances and long hours of traveling in Transport incubators.
This is not the most suitable mode of transport for these infants as they become hypothermic, which cause complications.

In addition, their brains are extremely vulnerable; and the bumpy roads may cause brain bleeds. Therefor all infants must be transported skin to skin on the mothers chest, or family member or ems staff member.  This workshop will teach the EMS Staff how to implement Inter-facility Transport safely.
