Free State Education honours adult learners

Free State Department of Education will honour adult learners who have successfully completed their studies and encourage others who still cannot read and write to make use of Adult Education Training (AET) offered by government to improve their lives.

The celebration form part of the annual International Adult Learners Week to sensitise illiterate community members about AET and making sure that doors of education are open for all.

The Free State Department of Education has injected R1.1 million in 2011/12 for learning and teaching material and a further R2.9 million for the training of AET educators and centre.

Adult Education Training goes beyond acquiring reading and writing skills but ensures that citizens have access to basic education and can participate in democratic processes by making informed decision as enshrined in the Constitution.

The department has taken concerted efforts in making sure that basic education is accessible to all by establishing AET public centres in urban and rural areas in the province.

Free State Department of Education MEC Makgoe urges the society to take a keen interest in education and to offer motivational support to adult learners to complete their studies.

The theme for this year is 'Celebrating Creativity'. The media is invited to attend.
