Free State Education to celebrate Readathon Day

The Free State Department of Education will host a Readathon Day on Friday, 9
September 2011 in Bloemfontein.

Readathon Day is celebrated annually and affords learners an opportunity to
demonstrate their reading proficiency. Learners who will participate in the
programme are beneficiaries of the mobile library programme and are mainly from farm schools.

In the province, Readathon Day is also used to monitor the impact of mobile
libraries which move around the province targeting schools which do not have
fully fledged libraries and offers learners a chance to take part in enjoyment
reading and at the same time improving their vocabulary.

Education MEC, Tate Makgoe will assess learners’ ability to read on the day as
they take part in different activities such as reading, poetry, story telling and
dramatisation.

The theme for this year is: “The more you read, the more you know”
