Forestry Indaba: 21 to 23 September 2009 at Fish River Sun, Eastern Cape province

The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson would like to invite members of the different media houses to the Forestry Indaba that will take place from 21 to 23 September 2009 at the Fish River Sun, Eastern Cape province. The Minister, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson will give a key note address on 22 September 2009.

The main purpose of the Forestry Indaba is to provide a platform where key role players in the Forestry sector can discuss progress, challenges and proposed solutions and recommendations towards solving challenges in the sector.

The main focus of this year's Indaba will be on Forest Enterprise Development, which deals with afforestation and the implementation of the Forest Sector Transformation Charter obligations; prevention of veld and forest fires with an intention to develop an integrated approach for Fire Management at local level; and Skills Development to ensure meaningful participation by previously disadvantaged individuals or groups within the sector throughout the whole forestry value chain.
