FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee to brief Joint Committee session and attend special joint sitting of Parliament

The FIFA Local Organising Committee (LOC), led by Dr Danny Jordaan, will tomorrow brief a Joint Committee session involving the Portfolio Committee on Sport, the Select Committee on Education and Recreation and 11 other Parliamentary committees dealing with issues of tourism, transport, police, home affairs, finance and cooperative governance and traditional affairs.

The LOC will also attend a special joint sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces during which the Minister of Sport and Recreation Mr Makhenkesi Stofile will lead a debate on the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup and South Africa’s hosting of the event.

In May 2004, South Africa won the bid to host the 2010 World Cup. The tournament will take place in various South African host cities from 11 June to 11 July 2010. The LOC is organising the event and it comprises representatives from soccer, government and business.
