As part of the provincial Women's Day Programme, Eastern Cape female traffic officers, South African Police Service (SAPS) members and road safety officials will hold a roadblock on R56 near Xaxazini Village in Mount Fletcher on Friday, 21 August 2009, at 10h00.
This follows two successful roadblocks, they held in Kei Bridge on Women's Day and on the N2 near Maweleni Village outside Mthatha last Friday. In the last roadblock, which was joined by Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC Ghishma Barry, they stopped and checked 1 045 vehicles, recorded 119 cases worth R83 700.
MEC Barry led the voluntary testing for HIV and AIDS, which attracted a total of five people. Ten people voluntarily donated blood and South African National Blood Service (SANBS) could only allow six people to do so.
