National Department of Transport Director-General George Mahlalela will join Eastern Cape Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC, Ms Ghishma Barry to officially open the expanded and upgraded East London Airport terminal building and also the air traffic control tower on Tuesday, 26 October 2010.
The MEC and Director-General will be joined by the CEO of the Air Traffic Navigation Systems (ATNS) Mr Patrick Dlamini for a business breakfast together with senior government officials and key transport stakeholders to mark this historic event.
MEC Barry and the Director General will honour a special graduation ceremony of two pilots to hand over their pilot licenses.The pilots benefited from the provincial department's bursary programme and are now qualified as commercial helicopter pilots with instructor ratings.
