The Northern Cape Department of Social Development is currently in the process of establishing a Social Work Veteran Forum for the Northern Cape. This process was initiated by the National Department of Social Development in December 2010, as a way of addressing the dire shortage of Social Workers and resulting service delivery gaps.
The Department is seeking the support of retired/veteran Social Workers in assisting and guiding (mentoring and coaching) newly appointed Social Workers, as well as supervision services, especially in dealing with the Foster Care backlogs and Social Work Administration.
A meeting to establish the Frances Baard District Social Work Veteran Forum is planned for 26 April 2012 at 14h00 at the boardroom at the Court Building on the 4th Floor. Retired or veteran Social Workers, willing to assist could contact Ms. Elize Moorcroft at 053 836 6960.
The Department further plan to launch the Provincial Social Work Veterans Forum on 3 May 2012. A representative of this forum will serve on the National Social Work Veterans Forum. The National Department of Social Development is also in the process to develop a database of Social Work Veterans.
