Entities doing business with government appear before Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa)

Parliament, 7 July 2009: Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopas) will tomorrow hold hearings on the report of the Auditor-General on entities connected with government employees and doing business with national departments.

Companies owned or linked to public servants are reportedly involved in government tenders amounting to over R600 million. The National Treasury, Department of Public Service and Administration and the Public Service Commission are expected to attend the meeting, as well as Directors-General from all nine provinces and provincial Scopas.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements will be briefed by Thubelisha on its mandate, as well as the current status and progress on its winding-up. Thubelisha will also update on recent protests by Joe Slovo residents and plans to resolve them, as well as brief the MPS on the Joe Slovo Constitutional Court Judgement. Thubelisha is the managing company of the N2 Gateway Housing Project.
