Energy Committee holds stakeholder meeting

The Portfolio Committee on Energy will hold an energy stakeholders meeting in Parliament tomorrow.

The main agenda of the meeting is to explore solutions to challenges regarding financing and certification of locally manufactured renewable products. This meeting will focus on experiences and challenges faced by developers and local manufacturers, since windows one of the current procurement of renewable energy.

This is the fourth public meeting which the Committee will be holding. The first one was held in November last year under the theme of job creation in local manufacturing within the renewable energy sector. The dialogue examined, among other things, whether local manufacturing was appropriately factored in the current procurement process of renewable energy from Independent Power Producers by the Department of Energy.

The last engagement held in June this year discussed renewable energy procurement for independent power producers. Committee Chairperson, Mr Sisa Njikelana says there are emerging issues in the energy sector therefore these meetings create a platform for a public discourse in the industry by facilitating structured discussions on various topics related to energy issues.

The discussions are aimed at producing quality analysis of key energy issues, keeping policy-makers and legislators regularly informed about the developments in this sector, engaging civil society and business communities in search for solutions to challenges in the industry, and eventually setting a platform to empower the key audience in the energy sector.
