The term of the current 38 members of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders (ECHTL) comes to an end in April 2012. The members were elected by their constituencies from the 10 regions of the Province to represent them in the ECHTL on issues affecting them and to enhance traditional leadership in the province.
In this regard, on 25 April 2012 elections will be conducted in all 10 regions to elect the new leadership of the House.
The elections will be preceded by a process of nominating candidates from 11-24 April 2012.
On 04 May 2012, a Provincial event for the inauguration and swearing in of new members including the pronouncement of all structures of the House will take place. The main address for the day will be rendered by the Eastern Cape Premier, Noxolo Kiviet.
