Efforts to expand health services to rural communities

The Deputy Minister of Health Dr Molefi Sefularo will outline the department's efforts in expanding healthcare services to rural communities. Dr Sefularo will speak about our successes, challenges and propose a way forward.

His address, to be delivered at Adler Museum, University of Witwatersrand tomorrow, will mark the official launch of the Centre for Rural Health, which aims to assist government in increasing service delivery to the neediest areas.

The Deputy Minister's address will illustrate department's progress, against the backdrop of the assertion that health services are inequitably provided in rural despite a range of progressive policies adopted and implemented since 1994. It will also acknowledge the imperative need to address the inequities that still exist.

Professor Tom Norris from the University of Washington School of Medicine will also make a presentation on developing human resources for rural health.
