About 219 principals from the Education Department’s cluster B’s underperforming schools will be addressed by their MEC, the honourable Mahlubandile Qwase, on Monday, 24 August at the Cicirha Further Education and Training College in Umthatha at 10h00.
This meeting forms part of the Matric Examination Countdown, a programme of the Eastern Cape Department of Education, which is aimed at ensuring that schools get the action plan for the final year examinations. The meeting will also include an interactive session between the departmental officials and the principals in an attempt to ensure that all schools are equally prepared for the examinations.
The programme is a campaign by the education department to ensure that schools that performed badly last year improve their results. Additionally, the department has adopted a listening and working together approach abandoning the scolding one as part of the learner attainment improvement strategy (LAIS).
Through this three-legged campaign scheduled for the three clusters, the department intends to make modest improvements in all the provincial schools so that the provincial pass rate can be improved this year.
The department believes the involvement and commitment of principals, teachers, parents and other social partners during and after this campaign will help yield good results for the future of this nation.
All media corps are invited to attend this momentous occasion.
