Education MEC Mandla Makupula to hold media briefing

The Member of the Executive Council responsible for Eastern Cape Department of Education, Mandla Makupula invites all members of the media to an important and the first media briefing of the new financial year.

Makupula will outline critical departmental initiatives in line with the prescripts spelt out in Section 100 (1) (B) that deal with overall transformation of the department and the rooting out all devious elements that persist with fraud and corruption at the expense of the long suffering learners in the province.

In this regards, Makupula will reflect on the following key issues:

1. Introduce the PriceWatersCooper (PwC) Team that has been engaged by the department, to assist with forensic and criminal investigations in support of the work that is already being carried out by the Special Investigations Unit

2. Expand on all appointments that have been effected to date in order to restore full functionality of critical portfolios in the department

3. Outline the department's key priorities for 2012/13 flowing from resolutions and decisions reached at the Department’s Executive Committee meeting held from 2 – 4 April 2012

4. Respond substantively to some of the issues raised by South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) in its march, and on the status of negotiations in the provincial bargaining chamber
