Education interns ready for the workplace

Free State Education MEC; Tate Makgoe will honour 55 interns graduating on Monday, 7 March 2011 at the President Hotel in Bloemfontein, after successfully completing an intensive twelve month internship programme.

The purpose of the internship programme is to address shortage of skills and the scourge of unemployment, especially among the young graduates. The programme was designed for unemployed graduates to acquire necessary skills required by the labour market and promote their employability.

The department injected about R2,4 million for the internship programme.

The interns were placed in the following fields: information technology, internal auditing, supply chain management, communications, financial management (accounting), legal service (law), quality assurance, inclusive education and employee wellness.

They were trained on the following: Basic Accounting Systems, logistical Information System (LOGIS), Personnel salary system (PERSAL), Massive Induction Programme (MIP) and International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL).

Of the 55 interns seven have already been absorbed in the job market elsewhere.
