Economic participation a key focus for the Disability conference

The Minister for Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya will officially open the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) Disability Trade and Lifestyle Conference taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand from Thursday, 16 September 2010.

This year the conference focuses on building entrepreneurship and encouraging participation of people with disabilities in the economy of the country. Minister Mayende-Sibiya is expected to present figures and speak strongly about the inability of both the public and private sector to meet employment equity targets for people with disabilities.

The conference brings together various stakeholders from the disability sector including disabled people’s organisations and various government departments involved in providing support for people with disabilities. Suppliers of assistive devices that enable people with disabilities to participate in social and economic activities will be exhibiting their latest innovations aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities.
