EC Transport to launch operation hlasela in Elliotdale

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport will massively embark in the implementation of the Road Safety Campaign known as Operation Hlasela for the rural community of Sirunu Administrative Area in Elliotdale, under Mbashe Municipality, which has a busy gravel road enroute to Hole in the Wall and proceeds further to Port St. John’s for tourists, yet very neglected in terms of service delivery for the citizens.

The department will partner with other stakeholders such as: government departments, Amathole District and Mbashe Municipality, Traffic Law enforcement authorities, South African Police Services (SAPS), Emegency and Medical Services EMS, Road Accident Fund (RAF). This initiative came as a response to the traffic safety hazardous situation in the area.

There will be road safety training for the surrounding schools from the 14 to 18 May 2012. Operation Hlasela will commence from the 14 to 17 May 2012. Communities will also be engaged on community outreach projects, e.g. stray animal.

This campaign will culminate to a major event scheduled for 18 May 2012 on the same venue. Learners will showcase what they have learned. This will be an Exhibition and Display day,and will be an interactive day as well for the communities of this area.
