Eastern Cape public servants to discuss transformation

Over three hundred public servants who occupy various positions in the provincial government departments, parastatals and municipalities will on Thursday, 25 November 2010 gather at the East London ICC to discuss the transformation of the public sector. The two day summit which comes in the wake of a recent public servants strike will start at 08h30 on 25 November and end on Friday, 26 November 2010.

This summit is the first of its kind in the country. It will feature the launch of the Provincial Public Sector Transformation Strategy - a provincial turnaround plan aimed at ensuring ongoing transformation of the culture of the public service for effective delivery of services to the people of the province. The summit will also look at reinvigorating public servants to gear them up for attitude and behaviour change. In a number of platforms including the Executive Council’s Public Participation programmes communities complain about issues of service delivery and the ill-treatment they get in government departments.

The theme of the summit is: "Driving excellence through culture change" and is derived from President Zuma's call of "changing how government works".

Experts in various topics will address the summit including representatives from South African Revenue Service (SARS) and Standard Bank. Auditor-General, Public Service Commission, Public Protector, Labour Unions and Business will also be present at this summit.

A media engagement opportunity will be made available in the morning session to allow members of the media time to interact with key speakers.
