The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature to embark on community outreach programme

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature in partnership with Chapter 9 and Chapter 10 institutions namely; South African Human Rights Commission, Public Protector, Commission for Gender Equality and the Auditor General, are embarking on a Public Education Outreach programme to empower the public with information regarding their democratic rights.

The Public Education Outreach programme is one of the Legislature’s public participation initiatives aimed at increasing public awareness about the role of the Legislature in promoting democracy through direct interaction with the people. This initiative shall afford community members an opportunity to engage with their public representatives and public institutions on matters of concern within the areas.

Several sectoral parliaments identified for this financial year shall be conducted in various parts of the province in an effort to close the gap between the Legislature and the electorate. The outreach is conducted under the theme “connecting with the people”.
