Eastern Cape MEC of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Zoleka Capa to honour extension officers

The Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform cordially invites members of the media to a two day Extension and Advisory Services Summit, which will also serve as a platform to recognise excellence in extension services.

In 2005 national government introduced norms and standards for Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services. Flowing from that, a five pillar extension recovery plan was born. The pillars concentrate on the following areas: recruitment, re-orientation and re-skilling, provision of information and communications technology (ICT), visibility and accountability, professionalism and image.

To fulfil the pillars of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) on the promotion of image and professionalism towards improving attitude and motivation to both farmers and extension officers, the awarding of excellent service by extension officers was introduced.

The extension officers are key to the transformation of small-scale agricultural sector, including coaching of land and agrarian reform beneficiaries and these awards serve to motivate them to better.

The awards encourage competition and enhance excellent performance of extension officers as it is promoting customer-focused services. The categories include top performers in advisory advisors, top performers in senior advisors, top performers in subject matter specialist, top performers in deputy managers and top managers in support services.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 and 7 March 2012
Time: 8h00
Venue: ICC East London

The actual awarding will take place on 6 March at a gala dinner that will be addressed by the Honourable MEC Zoleka Capa and it will start at 19h00.
