Eastern Cape MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa to give food parcels to people living next to a dumpsite

Eastern Cape Honourable MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa cordially invites members of the media to join her as she will be distributing food parcels to destitute families who live near a dumpsite at Amalinda in East London.

The handover forms part of the province’s Zero Hunger campaign programme which is championed by the MECs. The main aim is to ensure that vulnerable and poor individuals have food on the table.

Upon hearing about the plight of about 42 families who live in shacks next to the dumpsite, the Hon MEC decided to intervene by at least providing the food parcels while other strategies of interventions are discussed with other departments.

The MEC is of the view that these families, which include small children could not continue to feed from a dumpsite.

Since December last year, the MEC has embarked on handing over food parcels and some instance has used MPLs, from all political parties, to distribute them in their respective constituencies.

The Hon MEC invites members of the media to be part of this joyful moment which will take place as follows:

Date: Monday, 7 May 2012
Time: 17h00
Venue: Amalinda (Tipini informal settlements)
