The MEC for Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Zoleka Capa cordially invites members of the media to a Christmas celebration where she will hand-over gifts to destitute community members and an old age home in Butterworth on Thursday, 15 December 2011.
MEC Capa has embarked on Christmas give-away where she targeted destitute community members that are identified by the municipalities as well safety homes, including children and old age homes. To this end the MEC has donated food parcels that included vegetables, groceries and meat to a children’s home at Mbekweni village near Berlin and destitute families in Cartcath, Sterktroom and Klipplaat.
This is part Zero Hunger and Poverty Alleviation programme which are championed by the MECs. This is aimed at ensuring that vulnerable and poor individuals, some of which don’t even know what a Christmas present is, get valuable foodstuff during the festive season.
In Butterworth the MEC will give Cingela Old age Home, which houses 30 senior citizens, 30 Siyazondla starter packs that encompasses gardening tools like forks, spades and watering cans as well as seeds and seedlings.
The old age home will also be given two wheelbarrows, two hosepipes, two Jojo tanks and 30 food parcels while the Department’s extension and advisory officials will coach the senior citizens on cultivating their good productively and will continuously monitor their progress. The land has been prepared in the home and a planting demonstration will be made by the MEC and other stakeholders.
The Department will further hand-out 70 more food parcels to the community members identified by the Municipality. In Butterworth the MEC will be joined by SABC’s Umhlobo Wenene FM, MEC for Health Sicelo Gqobana and MEC for Social Development and SPU Pemmy Majodina.
