Eastern Cape Legislature honours Tata uNelson Mandela’s legacy in the Buffalo City Metro Municipality, 17 Jul

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will commemorate the International Nelson Mandela Day with a range of activities with the community of Mdantsane on Friday, 17 July 2015. This year, the Legislature in partnership with the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM) will be devoting 67 minutes to honour the legacy of the first democratic President and world icon, utata uNelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Activities planned include the following:

  • Renovations and general cleaning of Dickson Dyan Senior Primary School in NU 9 and donation of computers
  • Cleaning and bush clearing of NU 1 Graveyard also known Mtsotso Cemetery and
  • Tree planting and donation of office equipment at Mdantsane Arts Centre
  • Donation of 67 books and other fiction and nonfiction books at the and Mdantsane Library

On this day, the Honourable Speaker; Ms Noxolo Kiviet, Honourable BCMM Executive Mayor; Cllr Alfred Mtsi together with Members of the Provincial Legislature (MPLs), Councillors from BCMM and members of the public will play their part in honour of the late President.

In recognition of utata Madiba’s contributions to democracy, racial justice, and reconciliation and his service to humanity, the United Nations General Assembly declared 18 July as Nelson Mandela International Day.
