Petitions Committee to meet petitioners over appointment of Zalu Headman in Palmerton Mission, Lusikisiki

The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on  Public Participation, Petitions and Education (PPP&E) will hold a meeting with Petitioners in Lusikisiki tomorrow, on 11 March 2015. The Committee will be meeting the community of Zalu Administrative area after receiving a petition from concerned community members about their elected headman. The petitioners complain that the community elected their preferred candidate in September 2012 but to date he has not been authorised to assume his duties.

The meeting will be attended by the Chairperson of the PPP&E, Ms Fezeka Nkomonye (MPL) together with  members of the portfolio committee, the Provincial Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Traditional Leadership representatives, OR Tambo and Ngquza Hill Municipality’s representatives and petitioners.

The Constitution provides for the Legislature to receive petitions, representations or submissions from the public, interested parties or institutions.

The meeting is scheduled to take place  as follows:

Venue: Zalu A/A, Palmerton Mission, Lusikisiki on Wednesday.
