The Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature (ECPL) will host the Gauteng Legislature’s Health Portfolio Committee delegation next week from Monday, 08 June to 09 June 2015. The two-day inter-provincial Legislature visit is aimed at learning best practices from the ECPL’s Portfolio Committee and sharing strategies for improving the quality of health care in the Hospitals.
The visit will focus on the following areas:
- The role of the ECPL Health Portfolio Committee in overseeing quality improvement in the hospitals.
- To share best practices on how the ECPL Health Portfolio Committee ensures meaningful public participation.
- To share the strategies used by the Eastern Cape Department of Health in effectively ensuring that the hospitals assess their National Core Standards.
This visit will take place in the Legislature precincts at Dolly Mzaidume Committee room from 09h00. The Department of Health in the province is also scheduled to attend. As part of the programme, the delegation will also visit the following hospitals:
- Nompumelelo and Grey: 08 June 2015, 14h00 – 17h00
- Cecilia Makiwane and Frere Hospitals: 09 June 2015, 09h00 -12h00
The Portfolio Committee Chairperson for Health, MPL Mxolisi Dimaza said, “the Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Health has identified us as an important counterpart for enhanced oversight mechanisms. This we really appreciate and we will ensure that we do more to put our province on the map”.
