Eastern Cape to host International Civil Aviation Day

The Department of Transport through its Joint Aviation Awareness Programme will host the International Civil Aviation Day at the Bhisho Airport on 7 December 2011.

International Civil Aviation Day is an annual event which is celebrated globally and its purpose is to establish and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of International Civil Aviation in the social and economic development of States.

It is also intended to highlight the role of ICAO in promoting safety, efficiency and regularity of international air transport and this year’s theme is “Assistance and cooperation for globally sustainable air transport”

The celebrations will take place over three days from 5-7 December 2011, with the 7th being the main programme which will be attended by Transport Minister Sbu Ndebele, while the 5 and 6 will be dedicated to aviation career awareness, where learners and educators will be exposed to different careers in aviation.

Over the 2 days 3 000 learners and 200 educators are expected to attend the career exhibitions and the objective is to introduce learners and educators from previously disadvantaged communities to possible career opportunities available in the aviation industry.
