The executive council will hold a two day Cabinet Lekgotla in Port Elizabeth on 8 and 9 February 2010.
Some of the broad objectives of this gathering are:
1. To assess the progress government has made in relation to the provincial strategic framework, in particular progress on the provincial eight priorities as pronounced by the Premier in the state of the province address in May 2009.
Those priorities are:
* speeding up growth and transforming the economy to create decent work and sustainable livelihoods
* building social and economic infrastructure
* rural development, land, agrarian reform, and food security
* strengthening education, and building a skills and human resources base
* improving the health profile of the province
* intensifying the fight against crime and corruption
* building a developmental state, improving the public services, and strengthening democratic institutions
* building cohesive, caring and sustainable communities
2. To look at the progress in relation to the mainstreaming of the five manifesto priorities of the mandating party. Members of the Executive Council of the aforementioned areas will give strategic inputs in relation to their functional areas and progress thereof.
The manifesto priorities are:
* creation of decent work and sustainable livelihoods
* education
* health
* crime
* rural development including land reform, food production and security.
3. The Minister in the Presidency, Collins Chabane will present on the new performance monitoring and evaluation framework being introduced by national government with the focus on strengthening the capacity of government to evaluate its performance.
4. To develop a programme of action for 2010/11 financial year and agree on the broad terms of the medium term strategic framework which effectively becomes our provincial strategic framework.
Media institutions will be advised of what form (if any) media engagement will take after the lekgotla or soon thereafter.
