A number of challenges relating to education in the Eastern Cape province have propelled Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga and Deputy Minister Enver Surty to undertake an urgent fact finding mission to that province.
Recent media reports of termination of temporary teachers’ contracts, challenges of scholar transport and school nutrition programme are some of the reasons the Ministers will visit the province from Wednesday, 26 January 2011 till Thursday, 27 January 2011.
The Ministers will meet with the Premier of the Eastern Cape, the Provincial Director-General as well as the MEC for Education and his top management, to assess the extent of these challenges, and how the Ministry could support the province.
Upon conclusion of the visit, Minister Motshekga will brief all education MECs at the Council of Education Ministers (CEM) on Friday, 28 January 2011, after which she will make public her findings and interventions.
