Eastern Cape Department of Transport hosts youth art exhibition on road safety

As part of its Youth Month programme, the Eastern Cape Department of Transport will host an art exhibition to promote safety at Tuku village community hall in Peddie tomorrow at 10h00.

Taking place when there are huge volumes of traffic on the roads during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the exhibition highlights road safety awareness and is aimed at inspiring more road users to be vigilant, especially drivers.

Statistics of many road accidents reflects that most casualties are the young people hence the programme focuses on educating young people.

In preparing for the exhibition, the department put unemployed young people from the Tuku Village in Peddie to produce creative art work reflecting road safety messages through art in a bid to increase levels of awareness.

This programme will enable young people to apply their artistic, creative skills and values to harness economic opportunities upon completion by continuing to value transportation not only for road use but a place to develop careers in design, drawing, architecture, communications, photography, mathematics, driving and road safety.
