Eastern Cape Department of Transport and RTMC to hold Arrive Alive Rest Stop Campaign in Queenstown

Following a successful launch of the Arrive Alive Rest Stops Campaign by MEC Ghishma Barry and Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) CEO Ranthoko Rakgoale, the Department of Transport will hold another rest stop on the N6 near the Caltex Garage in Queenstown tomorrow at 14h00.

The programme will feature formal proceedings led by the local and district municipalities’ executive mayors, RTMC, live broadcast by uMhlobo Wenene FM and a roadblock by law enforcement agencies.

It is a direct response to the recent spate of accidents that the Eastern Cape Province has experienced. The province identified the problematic roads/routes especially the ones that often experience accidents (hazardous locations) and it is where the campaign is aiming at making the difference.

We aim at making the difference this festive season given the high traffic volume on those roads. The campaign seeks to further sensitize and entrench the message of ‘arriving alive’ and ‘obeying the rules of the road’. It also aims at addressing the fatigue and literally so by interacting and disrupting the drivers, and forcing them out of the road (breaking their trip), and that is exactly what informed the locations of these Rest Stops.
