Eastern Cape Department of Roads and Public Works and Social Development to celebrate Mandela Day

MEC for Roads and Public Works, Ms Pemmy Majodina and the MEC for Social Development, Ms Nonkosi Mvana, will on Monday, 20 July 2009, lead departmental staff members who will be renovating and putting up park homes at three social facilities in the Buffalo City Local Municipality.

They will be accompanied by the national Minister for Public Works, Mr Geoff Doidge, Buffalo City Municipality Mayor, Ms Zukiswa Faku-Hobana and senior management of both departments. President Jacob Zuma in his State of the Nation Address declared 18 July as Mandela Day, which will be celebrated each year. He also called for everyone to do something good to help others by spending at least 67 minutes of their time doing something useful within their communities, especially among the less fortunate. This joint initiative by both departments is a response to President Jacob Zuma’s call.

The main event will take place at Cliff Day Care Centre, 5017 Phakamisa in King Williams Town. The event will start at 08h00 and thereafter proceed to Vukani Old Age Home, Zone 4 in Zwelitsha and Second Creek, Parkside in East London as follows:.
