Eastern Cape Department of Education welcomes 37 teachers

The recapitalisation of 31 Technical Secondary Schools in the Eastern Cape aiming to improve their conditions before the end of the 2010/11 financial period, is gaining momentum as the Eastern Cape Department of Education will tomorrow, 19 November, at 9h00 will welcome recently trained Mechanical Teachers at the Red Windmill in East London.

These 37 teachers received a training presented by president Steyn Mines in Welkom from the 14 to 18 November 2011. The training is meant to up-skilling teachers at technical schools to acquire new trends, practical skills, and developments in their technical subjects.

The training was made possible by the Technical Secondary Schools Recapitalisation Conditional Grant. Apart from the training of teachers, the grant seeks to ensure that its outcomes also building new workshops, refurbishing and/or redesigning old or structurally unsafe workshops, procuring equipment, tools and machinery and training teachers in new practical teaching methodologies.

Progress on teachers training

Due to the National mandate for CAPS Training, the training plans were postponed until the end of July 2011. The scheduled trainings were revised and conducted as follows:

  • Teachers were trained in AutoCAD beginner’s course for 65 teachers and in Auto CAD Civil conducted by AutoDesk;
  • The second training was conducted for 37 teachers in Electrical Technology focusing mainly on Electronics conducted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University;
  • An AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil Training for 65 teachers was also conducted by AutoDesk;
  • An Electrical teacher training for 37 teachers was also conducted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
