Eastern Cape AIDS Council to launch Provincial Strategic Plan for HIV and AIDS and TB in Qunu

Eastern Cape AIDS Council secretariat will launch the Provincial Strategic Plan for HIV and AIDS, STIs and TB 2012 to 2016 at Qunu Multi Purpose Centre tomorrow, 6 June 2012, starting at 10h00. Chairperson of the Council, MEC Helen Sauls-August will also attend the launch.

The theme that has been adopted for the launch is ‘Building Together a Community free of stigma, discrimination and Human Rights Violations’.

This is because stigma, discrimination and denials has been identified as the number one social driver of the HIV epidemic in the province. This event will be used as a launch pad for the campaign against stigma, discrimination and violation of human rights for people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS in the province. NAPWA will also present findings of its study conducted in the OR Tambo District on Human Rights Count.

Qunu venue for the launch has been chosen because of reports of stigma and discrimination that have been clouding the area. It is also a birth place of former President Nelson Mandela who is a patron for HIV Human Rights through 46664 Campaign.

The launch will be held as follows:
Date: 6 June 2012
Venue: Qunu Multi Purpose Community Centre
Time: 10h00
