Decades of anxiety that her mud-house might collapse on her children will be finally allayed when a destitute rural widow receives a house built by a woman housing developer under the Human Settlements’ Each-One-Settle One Campaign.
The handover of the newly built house to the elderly pensioner is to be done in partnership with the North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison at Rasimone village outside Rustenburg in the North West Province tomorrow.
Construction of the house for the needy family was in response to North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety & Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono request to contractors doing business with her department to donate at least one house to the destitute in every area or community they are contracted to build houses as part of their social responsibility.
The donating company Tawana Business Projects has recently completed construction of 50 Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses built at a cost of over R3,5 million in Rasimone village.
The Each-One – Settle-One was recently launched by the National human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale with intentions to mobilise stakeholders, private sectors/institutions, agencies and businesses in order to assist the department towards reducing the backlog of Human Settlements.
The campaign will also assist in achieving the millennium development goals to eradicate informal settlements by 2014.
