The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) will host the annual Technology for Women in Business (TWIB) Awards at the Birchwood Conference Centre, Boksburg on Wednesday, 31 October 2012 from 18h30.
The purpose of the awards is to recognise and reward women entrepreneurs for the significant impact they have made in various sectors of the economy, through the application of technology in their businesses.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe who will be crowning the winners for the ceremony said TWIB was one of the programmes of the dti that played a crucial role in supporting and promoting women entrepreneurs to utilise technology to advance their businesses.
"Through this initiative, hundreds of women have benefited from various incentives and non-financial support offered by the department and it has enabled them to grow and sustain their businesses," said Thabethe.
She also said she believed that the growth, competitiveness and sustainability of South Africa depended on major technological advances and therefore there was a need to acknowledge and celebrate deserving women.
The seven companies which will be competing for the top honours at the awards are The Institute for Performance Management, TSLS Holdings, Agrotractor House, Ndaloyethu Carpentry (all from Gauteng), Megaphase Road (KwaZulu-Natal), Afrishore Shipping (Western Cape), and Mokhithi Manufacturing (Limpopo).
The awards will preceded by the Women Entrepreneurs Conference that will be hosted early in the day at the same venue.
