the DTI to conduct capacity building sessions for the KwaZulu-Natal liquor traders

Most registered liquor manufactures and distributors do not adhere to the general conditions of the Liquor Act No 59 of 2003 and the level of annual renewal of licenses continues to be unimpressive.

This is according to the inspections conducted by the Department of Trade and Industry's National Liquor Authority (NLA) jointly with the South African Police Service (SAPS), and provincial Liquor Authorities. The inspections revealed that this non-compliance in some instances can be attributed to lack of information with regards to the conditions and requirements of their registrations.

In order to address this, the NLA in conjunction with the SAPS and the KwaZulu-Natal Liquor Authority will conduct capacity-building workshops in the KwaZulu-Natal towns of Richards Bay and Pietermaritzburg on 14 and 15 August 2012.

The aim of the workshop is to educate and raise awareness on the Liquor Act No 59 of 2003 amongst registered liquor manufactures and distributors to enhance compliance to the conditions of their registration.

The details of the capacity building workshops are as follow:

Date: 14 August 2012
Time: 09h00 – 14h30
Venue: Protea Hotel Richards Bay, Corner of Davidson and Launder Lanes Meense, Richards Bay.

Date: 15 August 2012
Time: 09h00 – 14h30
Venue: Agricultural Royal Society of Natal, 1 Howick Road, Pietermaritzburg.

These sessions will offer those in attendance an opportunity to understand the Liquor Act No 59 of 2003 and to ask questions relating to their registration.
