The Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters, invites you to attend a media briefing on the Draft Position Paper on Fuel Specifications and Standards. This document serves to outline the direction which Government intends to follow in further improving the quality of transport fuels in the country.
It is a continuation of the process which, amongst others, resulted in the prohibition of the addition of lead into all grades of petrol and the reduction of the level of sulphur in diesel from 3 000 parts per million (ppm) to 500 ppm in 2006. The current initiative, referred to as Cleaner Fuels Two (CF2), seeks to further tighten fuel specifications and standards in an effort to align them with improved vehicle technology and the regulation of emissions that emanate from vehicles
