The Albany area will be congested with a huge number of inspectors that will be visiting farms, wholesale sector, domestic and hospitality sector to check compliance with the legislation governing these sectors during the week of 20 to 24 August 2012.
“The mandate of the Inspectorate as prescribed by BCEA no 75 of 1997 as amended is to ensure Compliance with all Labour Legislation in the province. Therefore the fundamental reason for the planned Blitz is to conduct inspections for the purpose of fulfilling the objective of protecting the vulnerable workers in the area” said Mr Bheki Gama, the Chief Director provincial Operations in the Eastern Cape.
The Albany area is formed by the Makana; Ndlambe and Nkonkobe Municipalities and the dominating sectors in the area are farming and wholesale& Retail
“We will be conducting Inspections during the day and conduct advocacy sessions in the evenings so as to share information with both employers and employees on the issues affecting them” said Mr Livingstone Matiwane, the Deputy Director responsible for inspections in the Province. Advocacy sessions will be conducted as follows:
